Why Choose Organic?
It’s sad that GMO’s have become the normal for food, while they
are generally cheaper, more abundant, taste better, and look better than their
organic counterparts, they damage your body. “Are pesticides really that bad
for me?” Well, yeah, they’re toxic chemicals, like rat poison but for bugs.
Pesticides are nowhere near as harmful now as they were when my grandmother
worked the cotton fields in the budding state of California, but they do take a
chunk out of your health bar. It’s as if you were to inhale a whiff of bleach every
day. You might feel sick but it’s not going to kill you unless you intake a
decent amount of it. But honestly, who’s going to drinking a shot of pure pesticide?
In case you haven’t caught on, pesticides actually aren’t my
biggest argument here. GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organism, an organism
being any living thing from plants to animals to bacteria. Why the genetic modifying of things we take
into our body is so bad is because it modifies our own genes! Essentially, it’s
kinda like eating radiation.
Do you know what cancer is? If you do, great! You can skip
this paragraph. If you don’t, let me
explain. Cancer is confusion in your genes. Normally your body would communicate
with its self, using your genetic code as an instruction manual, but if
something were to mess with even the tiniest part of your genetic coding,
something could go seriously wrong. Cancerous cells can form; these cells are
abnormal from your usual cells and grow faster than they should. The fast
growth is what causes the tumors; many cells build up creating a bump or lump. If
these cells spread throughout your body they can confuse everything, causing complications
that eventually lead to death. So, imagine if you have a sweet, cute, little Gremlin
and you unknowingly decide to feed him after dark. He’ll become confused and
angry and then he’ll multiply, creating more confused and angry gremlins and
they’ll all run out around the town confusing the people until the whole city
is burnt to the ground. You’re cells are the gremlins here, the towns people
are your organs, and the city is your body.
“Come on, GMO’s can’t really give me cancer!” There is no
worldwide recognized proof that GMO’s directly cause cancer, however, they do indisputably
increase your risk of developing cancer.
Cancer isn’t the only thing you should be worried about when
it comes to GMOs. Other problems directly linked to these mean foods are Infertility
(in women and men), immune system complications, and allergies. Oh, and don’t
forget bad performance in the bedroom.
I’m not
saying, “GO VEGAN AND NO TO GMOS!” If I did I’d be a hypocrite. But I hope that
from this you are encouraged to pay a bit more attention to what you eat and
limit your GMO intake. It would take some deep dedication and a lot of
headaches to completely cut out GMOs.
Tips
when buying foods: Unless it says Organic on the label it is most likely
Genetically Modified. Corn syrup, cornstarch, and all Corn products are
genetically modified and in almost everything. If you can, avoid corn syrup like
the plague- it robs your body of nutrients and many people have an undetected intolerance
to it. No Portobello mushrooms. Over the years these popular mushrooms have
been so modified that they have no nutritional value. They may say it on the label,
but your body can’t process them to actually get those nutrients, so in the process of
digesting them you lose quite a bit and don’t get anything back.
If you'd like to know more watch this video, it's pretty entertaining and I think it does a good job explaing what GMO's are.
